In a remarkable show of community service, the Rotary Club of Kigo 7 Lakes Golf and its youth arm in partnership with the Rotary Club of Kibuli, the Rotaract Club of Kigo 7 Lakes Golf, joined hands to transform lives in the slums of Kajansi Muline. The project aimed at providing essential healthcare services, raising awareness about critical health issues, and enhancing the local environment.
The project emphasized health awareness, focusing on Sickle Cell Disease, a prevalent condition in Uganda. Through extensive awareness campaigns and free screenings, residents were educated on the disease, with families receiving vital information about management and prevention.
In addition to Sickle Cell awareness, the initiative offered:
• Free medical checkups to detect general health issues.
• Vaccinations to protect children and adults from preventable diseases.
• HIV testing and counseling, empowering individuals with knowledge of their status.
• Antenatal care services to support expectant mothers and promote safe pregnancies.
This multifaceted approach ensured that individuals from all walks of life were attended to, including vulnerable children, pregnant women, and the elderly.
The Rotaract Club of Kigo 7 Lakes Golf was privileged to work alongside other Rotaract clubs from Kibuli, Mutundwe, Akright City, and Victoria University. Together, they demonstrated the power of teamwork, ensuring that the day was productive and impactful. The volunteers went beyond healthcare by engaging with the local community, offering moral support, and spreading positivity throughout the area.
The project was not limited to healthcare; it also included a community clean-up initiative, promoting sanitation and environmental awareness. Armed with tools, gloves, and garbage bags, volunteers tackled waste in the streets and public areas, setting an example for residents on maintaining a clean environment. This effort not only improved the appearance of Kajansi Muline but also contributed to public health by reducing risks related to poor sanitation.
This joint project exemplifies the spirit of "Service Above Self," a core value of Rotary International. The collaboration between the Rotary and Rotaract Club of Kigo 7 Lakes Golf, along with their partner clubs, highlights the impact of unity and dedication to community well-being. Residents of Kajansi Muline not only received much-needed services but were also left with a sense of hope and inspiration to sustain these positive changes.
The project has laid the groundwork for future collaborations, ensuring that the residents of Kajansi Muline and surrounding areas continue to benefit from such initiatives. It is a testament to the fact that when individuals come together with the intent to serve, lasting change is inevitable.
